"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." (Twain)

Mongolian Adventures

I give credit to the hours of Macgyver I use to watch and a German.
The past weeks in Mongolia have been nothing short of challenging and amazing. I could not imagine exploring this country any other way than on my bicycle.  Although the roads, weather and terrain present their own challenges its all part of the adventure, especially trying to put a tent up in a hail storm. There is no such thing as a small storm in Mongolia when they come its always fast furious.  The conditions here have begun to take a toll on my bike now better known as my horse.  My rear rack snapped but luckily by taking apart my kick stand and using its pieces we were able to attach it back and its probably now stronger than before, or I at least like to think it is. The other problem I encountered was when a rear spoke broke and I had to remove the rear cassette to replace it. It took three strong Mongolian men to remove it and one of their families made us lunch during the two hour repair session.  Then we spent the day with them at the river and were invited to sleep in the family ger that night. Yet another example of random acts of kindness I have experienced on this trip.
The Moron gang
The journey west continues tomorrow, August 21st, with hopes of entering Russia around September 15th.  The ride will become more remote it will be like the desert again except for the rivers and lakes along the way. I will be solo again after having cycled with people from UB and around Lake Khovsgol. I look forward to being my own boss lady again and seeing the priceless looks on people faces when they see the lone female cycling along in the middle of no where. Next shower in Moscow!

The photos in this post are courtesy of Emily Jeffersson with whom I cycled with from UB to Lake Khovsgol.
Just another friendly face along the road.
My bike is faster than your horse.
A typical Mongolian town.
